David Nelson, Marine engineer

Born in Scotland around 1844, he became a marine engineer, progressing to be Chief Engineer aboard the Danish Royal Family's steamship Slesvig. His son, also named David married Lucy le Bihan, the grand-daughter of Captain George Barnard, a well-known Navy officer and he became an engineering draughtsman working on fortifications for the War Office. David snr. died in 1856 and his death was announced in the Glasgow Herald of Friday 29 Feb 1856 - "At Copenhagen, on the 11th instant, Mr. David Nelson, chief engineer of His Danish Majesty's steam-ship Slesvig".
