David Nelson, Cheltenham grocer

David Nelson, who spent most of his life as a Dairyman and Greengrocer in Clarence Street and Well Walk in Cheltenham, was born in Scotland around 1806 and died in 1861 or 1863 in Cheltenham. In 1841 he was a warehouse porter in Cheapside, London, where doubtless he had met his wife Harriet Philpott from Canterbury who he married in Margate in 1828. They had nine children, two boys and seven girls. Harriett carried on the greengrocery business at Clarence Street until she died aged 88 in 1896.
