Capt. Thomas Bullock Nelson, mariner
Capt. Thomas Bullock Nelson, was the only son of Charles Nelson a teacher from Allonby in Cumberland and was born in Warrington in about 1829. He married Lancashire-born Alice Stock on 17 October 1854 and they had four girls between 1856 and 1870.
A sailor and later master mariner he died at sea on 3 March 1881.
His ship, the "Cecilia" was carrying a cargo from Newcastle to Valparaiso.
Off the Lizard Point near Whitburn off South Shields, the ship was driven ashore and lost with her crew of 9 during a Force 10 south-easterly storm.
